NLP Masters Seminar

21 to 24 May 2010

This seminar is your first step towards mastery of NLP. Here you will gain a much deeper understanding of how the mind works through complex personality filters, direct access to the unconscious mind, advanced and elegant language skills and the language of gestures. Ask any experienced NLP trainer for their favorite bit of NLP and it likely to be in this seminar. The seminar stands alone as an exceptional training in its own right or it serves as a spring board to full NLP Master Practitioner certification by combining this with our 12 day African adventure, “Stone Age Modelling : The Mysteries Revealed”.

Highlights of the four days include:

  • A complete training on NLP Meta Programs, best known through the LAB Profile, primary filters for sensory experience and an exceptional skill in tracking motivation.
  • A deep insight into the Enneagram, the world’s oldest personality typing tool. Once you know how, the nine types are clearly evident in external behaviour making this typology simple yet quite profound.
  • Real skills at offering therapy under Hypnosis using both direct methods and the indirect language skills of Milton Erickson.
  • The power of gestures in non-verbal communication through the amazing Satir Categories including loads of fun using them.
  • Master the power of words to rapidly change beliefs through the fourteen simple verbal reframes in Robert Dilts’s Sleight of Mouth.

Here are the details of what you can expect over the four days:

META PROGRAMS

In your Practitioner training you learned the basics of how we each filter our sensory experience to create our own unique map of the world. In this seminar we delve into much more detail in identifying the filters that construct the basis of personality. NLP has its own personality typology in the NLP Meta Programs. What is particularly useful about meta programs is that they are focused on motivation and that you can understand others motivations through the language they use. There are few, if any, vocations in life where this is not a very useful tool. Consider these examples – explained in detail at the seminar:

  • Some individuals prefer to be given procedures to carry out tasks while others prefer to have their options open. Procedures people are not great at setting up procedures but they get seriously irritated when options people change the set procedures!
  • Some individuals prefer to sort feedback on progress from others while some of us are very much self referenced. Others individuals need reassurance from outside that they’re doing okay, self sorters have a hard time accepting others advice!
  • Some individuals are interested primarily in the specific details of a project while others prefer the big picture of a global view. Global people are great visionaries but can become seriously unglued when the devil in the detail ruins their grand dreams!
  • Some of us are motivated by the stick and move away from unpleasantness to motivate ourselves while others are after the carrot, moving towards there goals. You can sell someone the identical product with totally different language, one that keeps them safe and secure, the other that puts them on the cutting edge of achievement!

We cover thirteen of these profiles in the training giving you all the questions you need to ask to elicit a full language and motivation profile – for an individual and even for a job profile or product description.

ENNEAGRAM

Next we will cover the oldest of all personality profiling tools, the Enneagram, dating back thousands of years. Using the Riso Hudson Enneagram type indicator (RHETI), you will understand the nine Enneagram types and acquire amazing insights into your own personality and those of friends and colleagues. Consider these Enneagram types:

  • The Challenger is a self confident, strong and assertive leader but can also be domineering and ego centric. They can be heroic and inspiring but have a real problem with being controlled by others.
  • The Enthusiast is a high spirited and playful optimist, sometimes referred to as the “peacock” and dominant in the entertainment world. They are easily distracted though and avoid pain at all cost.
  • The Individualists are creative types, deep people who are honest with their emotions and very personal. They can suffer from melancholy though and feel self pity.
  • The Helper is generous and self sacrificing, always out to please people and are warm hearted. They can be prone to flattery though and can feel unloved and neglect their own needs.

Each of us has something of each type in us with one type dominant. A major advantage to the Enneagram is its flexibility in shifting between types and in recognizing which negative and positive types we revert to depending on how our lives are progressing at the time. A tremendous advantage to the Enneagram is its simplicity in that it is external observable in the behaviour of people. You will spot the types with relative ease in friends and colleagues and immediately understand their strengths and weaknesses.

HYPNOSIS

In your Practitioner training you will have experimented with the NLP patterns in a light state of trance. You also experimented with Milton Erickson’s language patterns, particularly to write inspiring speeches. Now we offer you a deeper insight into the art of hypnosis.

We will pack as much as is humanly possible into this short session with our outcome being that you will have the confidence to induce trance in your clients. Here is a sample of what you can expect from this module:

  • A clear understanding of what hypnosis is and clearing up any misconceptions including a brief history of hypnosis.
  • An understanding of what exactly is the conscious and unconscious mind and how to communicate with each of them.
  • Confidence to induce and deepen trance using direct hypnotic techniques with lots of practice to build your confidence.
  • A deeper understanding of Ericksonian hypnosis and how to use ambiguities and language to induce trance.
  • Building therapeutic metaphors for use in trance work that lead the client to making rapid changes.

CRITERIA UTILISATION PATTERNS

Dubbed Sleight of Mouth by Robert Dilts in his seminal work on the subject, these are the language skills of some of the most influential people of our time. Words have great power to influence people and to change entrenched beliefs that limit us. All great leaders in history knew this and were masters of conversational belief change. Consider the power in the words of Barack Obama in inspiring a nation for change. The words of Martin Luther King stand like beacons to people fighting for justice whilst the words of Gandhi humbled the great British Empire at its most powerful.

Sleight of Mouth explores these language skills through the lens of NLP. Each of the patterns devised by Dilts allow for rapid and positive verbal reframes to effect change. Consider these few examples:

  • Redefine the words in the limiting belief so that they are positive. Being afraid of making a fool of yourself can as easily be a resistance to entertaining people.
  • Chunk down to get more detail and thus challenge the belief by identifying what specifically is the problem or chunk up to a category in which “playing the fool” is something positive.
  • Look for an analogy that is a positive reflection of the limitation like learning to ride a bicycle is as much an exciting challenge as entertaining people.
  • Masterfully switch outcomes so that it is not so much about making a fool of yourself as harnessing nervous energy to make a truly powerful presentation.

We will explore all 14 Sleight of Mouth Patterns and will embed these through exercises that help you to identify the criteria you apply to your own limiting beliefs and tools to change these.

SATIR CATEGORIES

In the Practitioner training you experienced the transformational power of Virginia Satir’s questioning skills through the meta model. Now gain an insight into her understanding of gestures as a form of communication. We are generally not conscious of the gestures we use yet they say a great deal about what is going on in the unconscious mind. Indeed many who study the very origins of language will place gestures up there as the precursors to language itself.

We will role play the five Satir categories of gestures so that you can get a sense of just how these gestures are a personality profile in themselves. Through the advice that different parents might offer to their teenage children, we will demonstrate the difference between the authoritarian blamer to the eager to please placatory, the wise old computer, the ditsy distracter and the calming effect of the leveler.

ADVANCED NLP TECHNIQUES

We round off the seminar with a set of advanced tools required for full certification as a Master Practitioner including advanced submodalities, advanced belief change work including the belief re-imprint patterns, sliding anchor and further insights into values and shifting a values hierarchy. We are sure you will agree that this seminar is quite extraordinary value for money and a real treat to anyone serious about the subject. Whether you choose to join us in Africa or not, we would love to have you back for our next NLP adventure!
